Manchester United may need to bid up to £60million to land Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer after having an offer worth over £40m rejected by Crystal Palace.

Right-back Wan-Bissaka is one of United’s principle transfer targets and the club made their first move for him earlier this month, which Palace swiftly turned down.

But sources believe a bid worth around £60m may force Palace to consider selling the 21-year-old, even though they are desperate to keep hold of him.

Wan-Bissaka is currently with Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under-21 squad preparing for the European Championships in Italy and San Marino.

He is contracted to Palace until 2022, which means the Eagles are under no pressure to sell one of their prized assets.

Wilfried Zaha has already expressed a desire to leave Selhurst Park this summer, but Palace value the forward at a minimum of £80m.

That has already put off Tottenham Hotspur and it is highly questionable whether or not any club will be prepared to match Palace’s asking price.

Palace will not sell both Wan-Bissaka and Zaha, which means United need to agree a deal for the defender while clubs consider whether or not to bid for Zaha.

When previously asked about his future, Wan-Bissaka has given little away by saying: “I am with Crystal Palace at the moment. That is where my contract is and that is where I will be next season. I have got three left on my contract. It says I am going to be there, so that is all I can focus on now.”

United have already agreed a deal that could rise to around £18m for Swansea City and Wales winger Daniel James.
