David de Gea is prepared for a fresh contract offer from Manchester United as talks over a new deal continue. The Spain goalkeeper is about to enter the final 12 months of his existing deal at Old Trafford and has been linked with Paris St-Germain and Juventus.

United are insistent De Gea will not be sold this summer, despite the threat of losing him as a free agent at the end of next season, and remain in dialogue with the goalkeeper’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Although negotiations have been ongoing for about 18 months and United have been reluctant to meet De Gea’s wage demands, the club want to keep the 28-year-old and are considering a fresh proposal in a bid to end the impasse.

De Gea’s existing contract is worth around £240,000 a week and he has been seeking a deal closer to Alexis Sanchez’s £500,000 a week salary although it is unclear at this stage what United are prepared to offer their No. 1.

De Gea’s form faltered during the second half of last season when he made a series of high profile errors but United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still considers him a crucial component of a squad expected to undergo plenty of change this summer.

United have agreed a deal in principle with Swansea City for Wales winger, Daniel James, who is likely to cost an initial £15 million rising to £18 million, but Solskjaer is still thought to be in the market for a more experienced right-sided forward. He also wants a right-back, centre-half and ideally two midfielders.

United are expected to make an improved bid for Crystal Palace right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, after being informed an initial offering of around £40 million was well below the South London club’s valuation.

There is recognition at Old Trafford that they are operating in a vastly inflated market but whether they would be prepared to meet Leicester’s valuation of over £80 million for England centre-half, Harry Maguire, who is also wanted by Manchester City, remains to be seen.
