Is Garry Monk about to leave Birmingham?

Rumours are circulating on social media that Garry Monk has left Birmingham, and Blues fans can’t hide their disbelief on Twitter, however of course, nothing is concrete or confirmed.

Monk has been in charge at St.Andrew’s for only a year but has made a real impression on the club.

Despite a number of outgoings and budget constraints during his time – not to mention a nine-point deduction – he has managed to stabilise the club on and off the pitch, resulting in a 17th-placed finish last term.

Plans are in place for next season too, Gary Gardner has joined the club after a successful loan spell last season in a move which was seemingly one which Monk supported.

However, the result of that deal meant that Jota departed, and with rumours that Che Adams could also be on his way to the Premier League it is possible that Monk feels he is being undermined by the board and the lack of support means he is unable to fulfil his role as he wishes.

Monk was appointed Swansea manager in February 2014, when he replaced Michael Laudrup. He kept Swansea up, then led them to eighth the following season, but he was sacked in December 2015 following a run of just one win in 11 league matches.

In July 2016 he was appointed head coach at Leeds on a rolling one-year contract, steering them to seventh in the Championship, before resigning in May 2017, two days after new owner Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover.

He then took over at relegated Middlesbrough but was sacked two days before Christmasfollowing a victory over Sheffield Wednesday which left Boro ninth, within three points of the play-off places.
